Help with my Dell SmartStep 100n please?
My laptop will only turn on for about 5 seconds before it shuts off. I recently had the battery out on it and accidently yanked the power from the laptop. And, because there was no battery the computer turned off. The battery does not hold a charge, and I was not having an issue with turning the computer on before. Is there any like precaution the computer takes where it won’t turn on unless it knows it has a battery back up since I yanked it from the plug a few times now?
You need a new battery. If you yanked the plug, you may have damaged the connector on the motherboard. if the laptop doesn’t start with the power plugged in, you need to get the connector resoldered to the mobo, probably ~$150 repair.
